Runners Are Needed for the Region 2 Science Fair!
Any students in 5th through 12th grades, who are not exhibiting projects, are invited to help out as runners at the IJAS Region 2 Science Fair at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) in the PE Building on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Service hours will be awarded to students for their participation.
Runners play a crucial role in our morning judging process, especially since the calculation of scores needs to take place quickly after judging is complete to prepare for the Awards Ceremony the same afternoon.
The responsibilities of the runners will include asking judges if they have any completed judging sheets, checking that judges have completed both sides and have signed their judging sheets, and delivering the judging sheets to the Judging Control Area. They will receive a free runner T-shirt (sizes Adult S, M, L, XL are available, but let us know if you need a larger size) and they will be assigned to one or more categories being judged.
Runners are expected to eat breakfast at home before setting out for MSI. The coffee and sweet rolls in the Auditorium are provided only for the guest judges. Runners need to arrive at the NEIU PE Building between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023. They will be guided to the runners’ meeting area, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Water and some snacks will be available during judging. Use of cell phones or any electronic devices will be prohibited during the runners’ meeting and the judging process (8:30 a.m. to approximately 12:15 p.m.)
Runners are expected to be well-behaved, stay attentive to their responsibilities, and remain in the judging area until the judging process is complete. They will be free to leave after they have checked out and received their service hour certificate. Sponsors must submit the names of their school’s runners via the Runners sheet on their school’s IJAS Region 2 Google Sheets workbook by .
